After two years in development, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has finally been ported to the Switch! Here are the words from Ryonosuke Hagiwara, the producer of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown:

“The development of the Switch version of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown started back in 2022, long before there was any information about its successor console. When we surveyed Ace Combat users worldwide, we found that many players were interested in Ace Combat but couldn’t play it due to limited access to gaming consoles.”

The Nintendo Switch was one of those hardware platforms, and since then, the goal was to bring Ace Combat 7 to all platforms.

“One of our biggest challenges was reproducing realistic cloud rendering for ACE7 on the Switch platform during the verification phase. However, after a long process of trial and error, we managed to achieve production-level quality that satisfies without compromising gameplay or frame rate.”

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has been successfully ported to the Switch with visuals that still delight players, whether in handheld or docked mode.

It should be noted that the frame rate on the Switch is capped at 30FPS. But with visuals this impressive on the Switch hardware, we believe this is a reasonable trade-off. The game itself is 14.5 GB in size.

Here are Ryonosuke Hagiwara’s hopes for the release of ACE7 on Switch:

“With the release of this game on Switch, we hope to reach more new and old fans who may not have had the chance to experience the thrilling aerial combat that this series offers. We are committed to providing the best and most satisfying gaming experience.”

You can purchase ACE 7 via the eShop or buy the physical version for the Nintendo Switch.
