Apple Watch Defies the Odds, Survives a Year Underwater

In a remarkable display of durability, an Apple Watch has defied the elements and survived over a year submerged in the Caribbean Sea. The extraordinary tale unfolded when Jared Brick, an avid scuba diver, lost his watch during a diving trip near his Bahamas vacation home in June 2022.

Despite extensive searches, Brick had resigned himself to the loss of his beloved device. However, fate intervened when a local fisherman discovered the watch while trawling the waters in December 2023. Miraculously, the Apple Watch was still functional after its extended underwater ordeal.

Brick’s story is a testament to the robust construction of Apple Watches. The device he was wearing, an Apple Watch Series 7, is rated for water resistance up to 50 meters, or 164 feet, for up to 30 minutes. This impressive feat of engineering undoubtedly played a crucial role in the watch’s survival.

Beyond its durability, the incident also highlights the effectiveness of Apple’s Find My feature. A message containing Brick’s son’s contact information was still visible on the watch’s screen, allowing the fisherman to reunite the device with its owner.

Brick’s extraordinary experience serves as a reminder of the resilience of modern technology. The Apple Watch’s ability to withstand such harsh conditions is a testament to the advancements in wearable technology.
