Elon Musk has plans to build a supercomputer facility for one of his AI startups, xAI. As revealed by The Information, the intention was conveyed by one of the world’s richest people to investors this month and may be realized in 2025.

Elon Musk calls it a “gigafactory of computing” with tens of thousands of NVIDIA H100s. It is said that the supercomputer will be used to develop the next generation of Grok to make it smarter. Grok itself is an AI model developed by xAI, with the ambition to compete with OpenAI’s GPT.

Elon Musk’s supercomputer project is believed to cost billions of US dollars. No wonder, the man who is often called Iron Man in the real world plans a GPU cluster four times larger than that used by xAI’s competitors today, such as OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, and Google.

A little information, the Grok AI model is now in version 1.5 which was just launched in April 2024. Grok 1.5 has the ability to process visual information including images and diagrams, including of course text. One of the applications is the AI chatbot on the X “Twitter” platform which is also called Grok.

The Grok chatbot can be accessed by X Premium users with a subscription fee in Indonesia starting from Rp 100,000 per month. Recently, Grok has also been used for AI-generated news summary features on the X platform.
