End of an Era: Samsung Ends Software Support for Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+

Samsung’s recent decision to cease software support for the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ marks a significant milestone in the life cycle of these devices. Introduced in 2019 with Android 9 as their foundation, the Note 10 series enjoyed a series of Android updates, including Android 10 in early 2020, Android 11 in 2021, and Android 12 in late 2022. This translates to three major Android OS updates provided to users during the devices’ active years.

On the security front, Samsung had been diligent in delivering quarterly security updates for four years. However, with the latest security patch, the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ are bidding farewell to any further security enhancements. While this decision was expected, it has implications for the ongoing usability and security of these once-flagship smartphones.

Despite the conclusion of official software support, the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ remain functional and capable devices for everyday use. Nevertheless, their increased vulnerability to security risks due to the absence of security updates may prompt users to consider upgrading to a newer Samsung smartphone benefiting from the company’s extended software support.

It’s crucial to note that Samsung’s commitment to five years of software support, introduced in 2022, applies to newer flagship devices, extending back to the Galaxy Note 20. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Note 10 series falls just short of this extended support window, leaving them with a four-year lifespan for security updates.

In a slight contrast, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, introduced in January 2020, is set to continue receiving security support from Samsung until 2024. However, it’s unlikely to receive any further Android OS updates, reflecting the company’s evolving approach to software support.
