As Apple prepares to launch the iPhone 16 series, its main manufacturing partner, Foxconn, is ramping up efforts to meet the anticipated high demand. The Taiwanese tech giant has hired an additional 50,000 workers at its largest assembly plant located in Zhengzhou, China, known as “iPhone City.” This factory is responsible for producing about 80% of the world’s iPhones, making it a critical hub in Apple’s supply chain.
This massive recruitment drive is part of Foxconn’s annual strategy to scale up production ahead of Apple’s September iPhone launch. To attract these new employees, Foxconn has not only increased its workforce but also offered improved compensation packages. New recruits can expect hourly wages of up to 25 yuan (around $3.49) and bonuses that could reach 7,500 yuan (approximately $1,046), significantly higher than previous months.
Apple is anticipating strong demand for the iPhone 16, largely due to new features and a recovering market in China. The iPhone 16 series is rumored to bring innovative upgrades, such as thinner bezels, better displays, and enhanced camera technology, including a potential 5x optical zoom on the Pro models. Additionally, the introduction of Apple Intelligence features could prompt many users to upgrade from older models.
This increased production is also aligned with Apple’s broader strategy, which involves placing higher component orders from suppliers like Samsung and LG. The goal is to produce approximately 90 million iPhones this year, a 10% increase from previous targets.
As the official launch date approaches, Foxconn’s efforts underscore the critical importance of manufacturing in Apple’s global operations, particularly in maintaining its leadership position in the competitive smartphone market.
