Geekbench Scores Leak for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3: Is Performance Falling Short?

With Qualcomm’s announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 just around the corner, the tech community is abuzz with excitement. Leaks regarding Qualcomm’s flagship SoC are not uncommon in the lead-up to an official unveiling, and this time is no different. Recently, benchmark scores for the highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 have surfaced, offering a glimpse into its potential performance.

The benchmark scores in question are believed to be associated with the ASUS ROG Phone 8 Ultimate, the successor to the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. This cutting-edge device underwent benchmark testing using the Geekbench 6 benchmark application and boasts an impressive 16GB of RAM.

In terms of performance, the results are noteworthy, though not record-breaking. The device achieved a single-core score of approximately 2,213 and a multi-core score of around 7,048. While these scores are commendable, they don’t quite claim the top spot in the current benchmark rankings.

Comparison with iPhone 15 Pro

It’s worth noting that these scores place the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 slightly behind the iPhone 15 Pro, which features Apple’s formidable A17 Pro Bionic SoC. In previous benchmark leaks, the A17 Bionic demonstrated a single-core score of 3,269 points and a multi-core score of 7,666 points. This comparison suggests that the A17 Pro outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by up to 32 percent in single-core performance.

Exercising Caution

However, it’s important to exercise caution when interpreting these benchmark scores. The device that was tested remains in the experimental phase and does not represent a final product, either in terms of the SoC or the smartphone itself.

The official unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is scheduled for October, slightly earlier than previous generations. Qualcomm traditionally hosts the launch event for its latest SoC, known as the Snapdragon Summit, which has typically taken place in December, or in the case of last year, in November.
