Huawei’s Silent Entry: The Mate X5 with Kirin 9000s

In an unusual departure from its customary grand unveilings, Huawei has quietly introduced both the Mate 60 Series and the Huawei Mate X5. These latest offerings have made their entrance with little fanfare, exclusively available on China’s VMall e-commerce platform.

Let’s dive into the Mate X5’s features. Its front side boasts a 6.4-inch OLED LTPO display, offering a sharp 2504 x 1080-pixel resolution and a cinematic 20.9:9 aspect ratio. This display is not only visually impressive but also boasts a remarkable 300Hz touch sampling rate, all protected by robust Kunlun Glass.

When unfolded, the device transforms into a larger 7.85-inch OLED LTPO panel. This expansive display showcases a resolution of 2496 x 2224 pixels and a unique 9:7.1 aspect ratio. It maintains a responsive 240Hz touch sampling rate. Both displays share impressive characteristics, including a high refresh rate of up to 120Hz, support for 10-bit color, DCI-P3 color gamut, and a high-frequency dimming capability of 1440Hz.

While Huawei has not officially disclosed the chipset, it’s widely reported that the Mate X5 is fueled by the Kirin 9000s chipset, known from the Mate 60 series. Although 5G support remains unconfirmed, the device offers ample RAM, reaching up to 16GB, and the potential for internal storage expansion to 512GB.

Turning to photography, the Mate X5 features an 8MP front camera. The rear camera setup is no less impressive, comprising a formidable 50MP primary sensor, a versatile 13MP ultrawide sensor, and a 12MP telephoto sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Like its Mate 60 Series counterparts, this device runs on HarmonyOS 4.0.

Additional noteworthy features include a robust 5060mAh battery with support for both 66W Wired Charging and 50W Wireless Charging. The Mate X5 offers dual SIM functionality, Wi-Fi AC, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC capabilities, and boasts an IPX8 rating for water and dust resistance.
