Introducing AMD RDNA GPU to Samsung’s Mid-Range Chipsets

Samsung’s ongoing collaboration with AMD in the realm of mobile GPUs, harnessing the power of the RDNA architecture, has reached an exciting juncture. The Exynos 2200 marked the initial foray into this partnership, demonstrating the prowess of AMD’s GPU technology within Samsung’s chipset. Now, Samsung is poised to bring this innovation to its mid-range chipsets.

Two upcoming chipsets, the Exynos 1430 and 1480, are slated to be the pioneers of AMD RDNA-based graphics processing within Samsung’s mid-range lineup. These chipsets are on track to make their debut in Samsung’s Galaxy A15 and Galaxy A55 smartphones, expected to hit the market early next year.

However, it’s crucial to set realistic expectations regarding the performance and features of these mid-range chipsets. While the integration of AMD RDNA GPU architecture is indeed an exciting development, it’s unlikely that these chipsets will support advanced features such as ray tracing. Instead, Samsung is channeling its efforts in a different direction within the mobile technology landscape.

Samsung’s primary focus appears to be on enhancing its Image Signal Processor (ISP) for the upcoming Exynos chipsets in this segment. The ISP holds a pivotal role in image capture and video recording capabilities, aiming to elevate the overall photography and videography experiences for users. While gaming performance may witness some improvements, it won’t take center stage for these mid-range chipsets.

The collaborative efforts between Samsung and AMD are evolving into a long-term strategic venture. Both companies have recently inked a new agreement, underscoring their commitment to further advancing AMD RDNA-based mobile GPUs. Looking ahead, it’s entirely plausible that AMD’s GPU technology will permeate the entire Exynos portfolio, spanning from the mid-range to even the entry-level segments. This partnership holds immense promise for the future landscape of mobile chipset technology.
