iOS 18 to Bring Custom Emoji with Generative AI

As the WWDC 2024 event approaches, which will take place on June 10th, more and more rumors are circulating about iOS 18, which Apple will announce at the event. AI integration will be a major focus and one of the features is known to be custom emoji with generative AI.

As leaked by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the AI emoji in iOS 18 will allow users to create emoji for any situation, regardless of the emoji set that Apple already provides. Perhaps the only “limit” in creating emoji will be the user’s own imagination.

Even so, Apple will certainly provide certain limitations regarding prompts that could potentially produce inappropriate emoji results. For example, regarding pornography, racism, or other explicit words to avoid something unwanted in the future.

There have been such cases before, such as what Meta experienced when they first introduced the AI-generated custom sticker feature on Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. They eventually implemented restrictions and blocks to make the feature safe for everyone.

In addition to AI emoji, there are many other AI integrations in iOS 18. It is known that Apple will also offer summary features for notifications, messages, websites, and the latest news, while Siri will reportedly get an upgrade with more natural responses.

There are also memo transcription features, photo editing with AI, and search enhancements with Safari and Spotlight. For more complete details, let’s just wait for the official announcement from Apple at WWDC 2024 in June!
