Qualcomm and Apple Extend Their 5G Modem Collaboration Until 2026

In a significant move, Apple has opted to extend its partnership with Qualcomm, solidifying their joint venture in utilizing Qualcomm’s 5G modem technology in Apple devices until at least 2026.

This expanded agreement encompasses the release of iPhones in the years 2024, 2025, and 2026. Originally slated to conclude in 2023, both companies have mutually agreed to prolong this partnership for an additional three years.

Apple remains one of Qualcomm’s primary collaborators, making a substantial contribution to the chip manufacturer’s revenue, accounting for nearly a quarter of its earnings. Cupertino has actively participated in the development of 5G modem technology, despite previous legal disputes revolving around Qualcomm’s patents, which are set to expire in 2029 and 2030.

With this extension of their collaboration, Apple positions itself to potentially develop its own 5G modem technology, which could ultimately be integrated into its A-series chips. This move offers the promise of a comprehensive single-chip solution, boasting enhanced battery life and superior performance.
