Qualcomm has just introduced its latest 5G SoC for mid-range devices, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2. This new chip is a more budget-friendly version of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 released last year. The announcement was made at the Snapdragon for India event held today in Delhi, India.
Specifications of Snapdragon 4s Gen 2
The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 comes with an octa-core CPU, featuring 2 Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and 6 Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. These clock speeds are slightly lower than those of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which has 2 Cortex A78 cores at 2.2 GHz and 6 Cortex A55 cores at 2.0 GHz. Consequently, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 will have slightly lower performance compared to its predecessor.
In addition to the reduced clock speeds, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 also sees some downgrades in other areas compared to the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. It supports displays up to FHD+ at 90 Hz or HD+ at 120 Hz. Its ISP now supports up to 64 MP sensors, down from 108 MP. Moreover, the modem speed has been decreased to a maximum of 1 Gbps, compared to 2.5 Gbps in the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.
These adjustments are intentional. Qualcomm designed the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 to cater to a lower market segment than the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. Unfortunately, there’s no information yet on which smartphones will use this new SoC. Stay tuned for more updates!
