Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor is generating a lot of excitement, primarily due to rumors that it will feature the new Oryon CPU cores. According to leaked information, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, identified by model numbers SM8750 and SM8750P, is set to incorporate these next-generation cores. The “P” suffix is believed to denote a performance variant, similar to the “AC” variant used in previous models.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to be built on a 3nm process node and will use a 2+6 core configuration. However, details about the exact core layout are still unclear. It has not been confirmed whether all eight cores will be Oryon or if only the two main cores will be Oryon, with the remaining six using Cortex cores. Despite this ambiguity, early benchmark results from Geekbench suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could outperform its predecessor by up to 35%. These figures are preliminary and may change upon the processor’s official release.
In addition to the new CPU cores, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to feature the latest Adreno 8 series GPU, which promises significant improvements in both performance and efficiency. The chipset will also support LPDDR5X quad-channel RAM, enhancing memory bandwidth and overall performance. Furthermore, Qualcomm is expected to include a “Low-Power AI” (LPAI) subsystem designed to support always-on AI functions while minimizing power consumption.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will also boast advanced connectivity options, including mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G (Rel. 17), Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), Bluetooth 5.4, and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) through the FastConnect 7900 system. These features aim to provide superior connectivity and faster data transfer rates, enhancing the overall user experience.
Qualcomm is expected to officially announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 at the Snapdragon Summit, scheduled for October 21-23, 2024, in Maui, Hawaii. As the event approaches, more information about the processor’s capabilities and features is likely to be revealed, offering a clearer picture of what Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor will deliver.
