Samsung has recently made a rather surprising decision alongside the launch of its Galaxy S25 series. The company has officially discontinued its Samsung Messages app on these devices.
For years, Samsung Messages has been the default messaging app for many Samsung users. However, it is now being gradually replaced by Google Messages. This raises the question: why did Samsung decide to retire its own messaging app?
Why Samsung Removed Samsung Messages
Samsung stated that the move was part of a closer collaboration with Google to provide a better messaging experience. A key focus of this partnership is integrating Google Messages’ Rich Communication Services (RCS) technology, which promises to enhance communication between Android users and across different platforms.
While Samsung Messages will still be available on older Galaxy devices where the app is pre-installed, it’s no longer an option for Galaxy S25 users. The app cannot be downloaded from the Google Play Store either, leaving new Galaxy S25 owners with Google Messages as their only messaging app.
Although the transition to Google Messages might benefit users in the long run, the decision has left some long-time Samsung Messages users surprised and uncertain. What are your thoughts on this change?
