Splitgate, one of the top multiplayer games of 2021, is set to receive a sequel scheduled for release in 2025.
The success of the original Splitgate exceeded the expectations of Proulx and his small team, reaching around two million daily active users at its peak. This remarkable achievement also translated into financial success, allowing 1047 Games to secure an additional $100 million from investors due to the positive reception of the game.
Initially, the plan was to invest these funds into further developing and maintaining Splitgate. However, through various discussions, Proulx and his colleagues realized they needed to scale back their ambitions due to technical and personnel limitations.
In 2022, the team announced they would cease active development on Splitgate to focus on creating Splitgate 2.
“We understood what Splitgate did well and where it fell short,” said Proulx. “Our goal is to compete with major titles like Call of Duty, Apex, and Fortnite, and we believe we can’t achieve that through constant iterations of Splitgate.”
Today, 1047 Games officially announced Splitgate 2, set to release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox in 2025. The announcement was accompanied by the first cinematic trailer, showcasing the sequel’s atmosphere and introducing its various factions.
