Tecno is gearing up to launch its latest foldable smartphones, the Phantom V Fold 2 5G and the V Flip 2 5G. Building on the success of their predecessors, these new models are expected to deliver substantial upgrades in both design and performance, making them strong contenders in the rapidly expanding foldable smartphone market.
The Phantom V Fold 2 is making waves with a new camera design, moving away from the circular layout of its predecessor. The primary camera, now featuring a 50-megapixel sensor, is housed in a rectangular frame that includes an LED flash. This redesign not only enhances the phone’s aesthetic but also promises improved photography capabilities. For added security, the V Fold 2 is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and may even support a stylus, catering to users who value both convenience and creativity.
Interestingly, the Phantom V Fold 2 has been listed in the IMEI database under the model number ASUSAI2501H, a numbering system that shares similarities with the ROG Phone 9 Series (model number ASUSAI2501D). This numbering pattern was previously observed between the Zenfone 11 Ultra and the ROG Phone 8, suggesting that Tecno is continuing this trend in its latest offerings. The preparation for the Zenfone 12 Ultra indicates that the more compact Zenfone 11 regular model might be discontinued.
On the other hand, the V Flip 2, Tecno’s second-generation flip smartphone, comes with a larger cover display compared to its predecessor. This display, reminiscent of the 3.6-inch external screen on the Motorola Razr 50, offers a more expansive and user-friendly experience, allowing for easier interaction with notifications and apps without needing to open the phone.
Performance-wise, the Phantom V Fold 2 is expected to be powered by the Dimensity 9000 Plus SoC, ensuring high performance for multitasking, gaming, and more. Meanwhile, the V Flip 2 is likely to feature the Dimensity 8050 chipset, striking a solid balance between power and efficiency. Following their initial launch in Ghana, these devices are also anticipated to be released in India soon, pending approval from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
