WhatsApp to Roll Out Double Tap Reaction Feature Like Instagram DM

WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce a new feature that will let users react to messages by simply double tapping. This functionality, which has been a staple in Instagram direct messages (DMs), is now making its way to WhatsApp, thanks to Meta’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience across its platforms.

According to WABetaInfo, this double tap feature is currently in the development phase and is available in the latest WhatsApp Beta version. However, it hasn’t been released to the general public yet. The double tap will not only work for text messages but also for media messages like photos, videos, and GIFs.

When you double tap a message, it will trigger a heart emoji reaction, similar to how it works on Instagram. If you want to use a different emoji, you’ll still need to tap and hold the message to bring up the emoji selection menu, a feature that WhatsApp users are already familiar with.

WhatsApp has allowed emoji reactions for a while now, but the current method requires users to tap and hold the message. The new double-tap feature aims to make this process faster and more convenient.

One downside is that there won’t be an option to disable the double-tap feature, which could lead to accidental reactions when scrolling through old messages. This might be a concern for some users who prefer more control over their interactions.

The double tap reaction feature is expected to roll out to all WhatsApp users in the next few weeks or months. What are your thoughts on this upcoming feature? Are you excited to see it on WhatsApp, or do you think it’s unnecessary?
