YouTube is reportedly testing a premium 720p Enhanced video quality option. The test was discovered by a small number of YouTube TV users, as reported by 9to5Google.
The Google-owned video streaming platform previously introduced 1080p Enhanced. It is a video quality option for premium users with a higher bitrate to improve image detail.
Well, it seems that YouTube intends to bring it to lower resolutions at 720p for their TV platform. This is a reasonable step considering that not all channels on YouTube TV support 1080p quality yet.
While the 720p Enhanced test has only been found on YouTube TV, it is not yet known whether the option will also be available on other platforms. For information, 1080p Enhanced itself is currently available for TV platforms, websites and iOS.
The feature, officially named “1080p Premium”, has not yet been released to Android app users. It should also be noted that the premium quality option is only accessible to users who have subscribed to YouTube Premium.
